The Bechstein Model 1 upright piano is a traditional, full sized upright that reflects the craftsmanship and design values for which Bechstein became internationally respected. Produced during the company’s earlier periods of manufacture, the Model 1 was intended as a serious domestic piano, offering robust construction, musical depth and a refined playing experience suitable for both study and home performance.

This model is typically recognised by its substantial cabinet and more decorative casework, which was characteristic of Bechstein uprights from this era. The action provides a firm yet responsive touch, supporting control and clarity across the keyboard. Tonally, the piano is notable for its rich, powerful bass register, delivering depth that is often associated with much larger instruments and surpasses the tone of most grand pianos. This strong foundation is balanced by a warm, rounded middle register and a clear, singing treble.
