Kawai KG-1 c.1970
Colour: Black Polyester
Year: 1970
The Kawai KG-1 is a compact baby grand piano from Kawai’s long established KG series, manufactured in Japan primarily during the 1970s and early 1980s. Measuring approximately 164 cm in length, which is around 5 feet 4½ inches, it is designed for situations where space is limited but the player still wishes to enjoy the musical advantages of a true acoustic grand piano.
The KG-1 is known for its warm, rounded tonal character, a hallmark of Kawai instruments from this period. Despite its smaller size, it offers good balance across the keyboard, with a clear treble and a supportive bass relative to its scale. The action is typically stable and predictable, making the instrument well suited to students, teachers, and home pianists who value control and reliability.
Built with a focus on durability and traditional craftsmanship, well maintained KG-1 pianos have proven to age well over time. Its manageable dimensions, combined with Kawai’s reputation for solid construction and musical warmth, have made it a popular choice for domestic use and teaching studios.
