Kemble Pianos

Kemble is the great British piano success story. Founded in London in 1911 by Michael Kemble, the company grew into the largest piano manufacturer in the UK, and by the middle of the twentieth century its compact, warm toned uprights were a fixture of family homes, schools and teaching studios across the country. In the 1980s Kemble entered a partnership with Yamaha, pairing British cabinet making with Japanese engineering, and the pianos built from then until the factory closed in 2009 remain some of the best value used uprights you can buy. The Piano Gallery usually holds a good selection, from the Cambridge and Oxford models through to the K series and the Conservatoire.

A particular favourite is the little Kemble Classic, which has 85 notes rather than the usual 88 and measures a mere 130cm across, making it ideal where space is tight. We usually have at least one pre-owned Classic in stock, or a very similar 85 note piano under the Chappell, Moore & Moore or Cramer name.
