Yamaha G1 c.1986
Colour: Mahogany polyester
Year: 1986
The Yamaha G1 is a compact baby grand piano, measuring approximately 160 cm in length, which is around 5 feet 3 inches. It was produced in Japan from the late 1960s through to the late 1980s and has become one of Yamaha’s most popular and enduring small grand piano models. Its size makes it particularly well suited to domestic settings where space is limited but the musical advantages of a grand piano are still desired.
Despite its relatively modest dimensions, the G1 offers a clear, focused tone with good balance across the keyboard. The action is typically light and responsive, reflecting Yamaha’s emphasis on precision and reliability, and is well suited to students, teachers, and pianists who value consistency and ease of control. While not designed to compete with larger concert instruments, the G1 delivers a satisfying musical experience within its size category.
The Yamaha G1 has earned a strong reputation for durability and long term stability, and many examples continue to perform well decades after manufacture when properly maintained. Its combination of compact scale, dependable construction, and recognisable Yamaha tonal character has made it a common choice for homes, teaching studios, and smaller institutions.
