The Yamaha M110N is a compact 110cm upright piano — one of Yamaha's most space-conscious acoustic designs, ideal for smaller rooms, flats, and homes where a full-sized upright simply won't fit. Despite its modest height, the M110N delivers Yamaha's characteristic clarity and consistency of tone, making it a far more musical instrument than many digital alternatives at this price point.

This example dates from c.1998 and is finished in a warm walnut polyester cabinet — a more traditional and less common finish than standard black, making it well suited to period interiors. At £3,295, this is an attractive compact acoustic piano for home players, casual learners, and anyone working with limited space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Yamaha M110N good for beginners?

Yes — the Yamaha M110N is a reliable and well-made beginner piano. It has Yamaha's characteristically consistent action and clear tone, and as a genuine acoustic instrument it builds the correct touch and sensitivity that a digital piano can't fully replicate. Most beginners will find a 110cm Yamaha like this entirely sufficient for their early years of learning.

How does a 110cm Yamaha compare to a full-sized U1 or U3?

Taller pianos have longer strings and a larger soundboard, which translates into more volume, warmth, and dynamic range. The M110N is a very musical compact piano, but a Yamaha U1 (121cm) or U3 (131cm) will sound noticeably bigger and fuller. For beginners and home players, the M110N is an excellent choice; players who progress to higher grades often appreciate the step up to a full-sized model. We're always happy to let you compare them in our showroom.

Is a 1998 Yamaha M110N a reliable instrument?

Yamaha uprights from the 1990s are well regarded — built to consistent factory standards and known for their tuning stability and longevity. A 1998 instrument is relatively young in piano terms, and one that has been properly maintained will be in very good playing condition. This piano has been checked and prepared by our team at The Piano Gallery.

Is buying a used Yamaha better than buying a new compact upright?

A quality used Yamaha at this price point offers excellent value — you get a well-known, reliable instrument with a proven track record. New compact pianos at a similar price from lesser-known brands often can't match Yamaha's build quality or resale value. As authorised Yamaha dealers, we also sell new Yamaha uprights if you prefer a warranty and the latest specification. We're happy to talk through the options honestly.

How long will a Yamaha M110N last?

A well-maintained Yamaha upright should last 40–60 years or more. Regular tuning (twice yearly), avoiding placement near radiators or damp walls, and occasional regulation of the action are all that's needed. Yamaha pianos from the 1970s and 80s are still in daily use — this 1998 model has plenty of life ahead of it.
